Morningside

Located mix of suburban and urban vibes within walking distance of several city parks.

Welcome to Morningside

The small, affluent neighborhood with convenient access to two towns

Smack dab between downtown San Anselmo and Fairfax, Morningside is a highly coveted and much-loved neighborhood just south of Sleepy Hollow featuring close proximity to renowned public and private schools. Surrounded by gentle hills dotted with plentiful trees, nestled in an expansive valley, and including a portion of the Sleepy Hollow Creek, Morningside is well-known for its friendly atmosphere and affluent population. Highly suburban, this neighborhood is also great for equestrians, thanks to its remarkable riding country.

The homes in Morningside lean heavily towards single-family and midsized homes with high market value and great amenities. Along the well-manicured streets, you’ll find Mediterranean-inspired homes, mid-century split-level houses with large backyards and pools, and plenty of beautifully kept historic homes that’ll leave you breathless.

Despite its suburban feel, Morningside is also just minutes from park preserves, shopping malls, and restaurant quarters and has access to all of the exciting activities that the towns of San Anselmo and Fairfax both have to offer.

People & Lifestyle

Both towns of San Anselmo and Fairfax have populations of well-educated, affluent, and family-oriented residents who tend to own their homes and have a deep-seated sense of community. Morningside, then, is a mix of this group as well, and the small-town vibes of the two towns it straddles radiate into the suburban neighborhood.

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

Morningside is in close proximity to a plethora of local shops and eateries, the kind that become instant staples in your daily routine or favorites for your nights out. Downtown San Anselmo is home to charming local boutiques and specialty stores like SeeSaw Children’s Consignment, which is dedicated to helping parents continue to provide quality clothing items for their kids without waste.

The dining scene is amazing here, too, and you can find casual eateries right next door to Michelin-rated fine-dining establishments. Burgers, beer, salads, and shakes are the trademarks of The Hub, which sources from local brewers, wineries, farmers, and more to serve up the best of San Anselmo in a laid-back, fun environment. Warm and cozy, Cucina SA aims to become your new neighborhood favorite. Their lovingly crafted, southern Italian fare will satiate any appetite, and their dedication to excellent service will ensure you leave satisfied every time. Hoping to treat yourself to an upscale, intimate, and urban fine-dining experience? Spend date night at MADCAP and let owner-and-chef Ron Siegel dazzle you with his dishes crafted from local, organic, farm-fresh ingredients.

Things to Do

Apart from the shopping and dining options, Morningside is within minutes of parks, recreation facilities, gardens, museums, and events. It’s easy to take advantage of the sunny California climate here, and residents need only walk down the street to find local parks perfect for enjoying with the family on the weekends. Memorial Park is a popular choice for locals, and as San Anselmo’s most developed park, it offers up a children’s playground, sports fields, outdoor facilities, a garden, and wide-open expanses with gorgeous views of nearby mountains. Imagination Park—the brainchild of George Lucas as an homage to his two biggest franchise films, Star Wars and Indiana Jones—is placed downtown, has life-sized statues of Yoda and Indiana Jones, and is a place for hopeful inspiration.

Residents and visitors can also head to Creek Park on Sundays during August to enjoy Music in the Park, a free concert series played by local musicians across several genres. Budding conservationists, garden enthusiasts, and anyone who delights in the resplendent beauty of nature and art will want to check out the Marin Art Garden Center. Here, you can take part in one of their many classes or simply wander the 11-acre property and view the stunning displays.
